Also shampooing your hair regularly can strip away the natural oils, therefore, these days many dermatologists and hairstylists advice the use of dry shampoos which come in the form of a powder and absorbs excess oil, sweat and dirt from your hair makes it look natural and presentable.

Using dry shampoos has various benefits like it cleans your hair and helps you avoid the greasy look, it is convenient to use, and keeps your hair in optimum condition by removing out the oils from scalp. There are several dry shampoos available on the market, but why buy when you can easily make one using some of the ingredients stored in your kitchen cabinet.

Here are 10 easy and simple DIY dry shampoo recipes.

Dry shampoo for light colored hair

The materials required to make this recipe are— ¼ cup of cornstarch, ¼ cup of baking soda and 5-10 drops of any essential oil like lavender oil. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl until they blend well into a soft powder then apply the powder onto your tresses, in the same way as you would use oil.


Dry shampoo for dark colored hair

This recipe is quite similar to the previous one with the exception of cocoa power. Mix all the ingredients into a fine powder and apply on your hair.


Oatmeal dry shampoo

To make this dry shampoo, you’ll need one cup of grounded oatmeal powder and one cup of baking soda. Mix the two ingredients well and massage onto your hair, let it absorb the oil, and then brush your hair thoroughly to remove the powder. You can also add a few drop of essential oil to the mixture.


Baby powder dry shampoo

All you’ll need for this simple and easy shampoo is 1/4 cup baby powder and 1/4 cup baking soda, mix the two ingredients well, apply and massage on your tresses for few minutes and brush it out thoroughly.


Salt & cornmeal dry shampoo

Take 1 tablespoon salt and 1/2 cup cornmeal and mix them well, massage the mixture into your hair, wait a few minutes, and brush it out.


Almond powder dry shampoo

This is another dry shampoo recipe which uses baking while the other two ingredients are 1 cup of finely grounded almonds and 5-6 drops of peppermint essential oil. Mix all the ingredients well and massage on your scalp and hair, leave it for few minutes and brush it out.


Cheesecloth dry shampoo

All you’ll need for this process is a piece of cheesecloth and a wide hair brush with natural bristles. Wrap the cheesecloth around the brush and brush your hair with it. The cheesecloth will absorb the oil and remove dirt from your hair.


Dry clay shampoo

Applying dry clay on your hair helps in cleaning your hair and removing excess sebum or oil. You can use any clay of your choice like white or green clay which are rich in silica an iron and can work wonders on your hair using them as a dry hair mask. Distribute the dry clay through your hair and work it into your roots, let it sit for a few minutes and brush it out.


Cornmeal & orris root

Make a mixture of one tablespoon of cornmeal, one tablespoon of orris root, and one tablespoon of finely ground almonds. Brush your hair well before using this mixture, then work the mixture into your roots and brush your hair well again after a few minutes to remove the mixture.


Spray on dry shampoo recipe

The supplies required to make this shampoo recipe are: 1 cup water, 4 tablespoons cornstarch, 4 tablespoons vodka and 4 drops of fragrant essential oil like orange or peppermint. Boil the water and let it cool down until it becomes lukewarm. Pour the water with all other ingredients in a clean spray bottle and shake well until everything is mixed properly. Spray into your hair mainly on your roots and the oily parts. Brush your hair and you’re done.
